List For Recommended One Month Food Supply (One Person)

 

 Based on suggested amount in "Essentials of Home Production and Storage," a months

 emergency supply of food for one person would consist of the following:

 

    Grains - 25 lbs

    Powdered Milk - 6.25 lbs

    Sugar or Honey - 5 lbs

    Salt - 8 ounces

    Fats & Oils - 1 2/3 lbs

    Legumes - 5 lbs

 

  A suggested month's supply of food for one person could consist of the following foods:

 

    One case of 6 #10 cans - 

                                                    1 can of Wheat (about 6 lbs)

                                                    1 can of rice (about 6 lbs

                                                    1 can of rolled oats or macaroni (about 3 lbs)

                                                    1 can of popcorn (about 6 lbs)

                                                    1 can of non-instant non-fat dry milk (about 4 lbs)

                                                    1 can dry beans (5 lbs)

 

                                                  Also:

 

                                                    1 5 lb bag flour

                                                    1 5 lb bag sugar

                                                    1 32 ounce bottle of oil

 

                                                  ESTIMATED COST: less than $40

 

    Where facilities and equipment are unavailable for canning these items, purchase the

 equivalent amount and store in a container with a tight fitting lid.
