Food Storage

 

List For Recommended One Year Food Supply (One  Adult Person)

 

 Based on suggested amount in "Essentials of Home Production and Storage," a Years

 emergency supply of food for one person would consist of the following:

 

       *Suggested Amount fro 1 adult per 1 year***

 

    Grains (Wheat, Flour, Rice, Corn, Oatmeal, Pasta) - 400 lbs

    Powdered Milk - 16 lbs = 64 quarts

    Sugar or Honey - 60 lbs

    Salt - 5 - 8 Lbs

    Fats & Oils (Shortening, Butter, Mayonaise, Peanut Butter) - 20 lbs or 10 quarts

    Legumes (Dry Beans, Peas, Lentils) - 60 lbs

    Water - 14 gal/person/2 weeks**

 

  *These amounts are suggested by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints

  * Children's Percentage of adult portion: 0-3 yrs=50%, 4-6 yrs=70%, 7-10 yrs=90%

  * Start using wheat and whole grains in diet regularly to allow digestive system to adapt to increased fiber.

  **It is impractical for most families to store a year's supply of water.  Fourteen gallons per person is a suggested

         minimum reserve.           

  ***Provides approximately 2500 calories per day
